Hello! My name is Carly and I am a new postdoc in iEarth.
I started in my new position on 1 August 2023 and will be based at UiT - The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.

Who am I?

I am originally from South Africa and completed my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology at the University of Cape Town before moving to UiT in Tromsø for a PhD on northern Norwegian tectonics in 2013. Thereafter, from 2018 to 2020 I completed a postdoc in structural geology and tectonics at McGill University in Canada, and subsequently moved back to Tromsø at the beginning of 2020. Since then, I have been working at UiT, mainly teaching a range of bachelor courses, and conducting research in geohazards and economic geology.

I am a structural and metamorphic geologist by training, and I have a passion for teaching and learning. As a postdoc in iEarth, I will be conducting research mainly within Focus Area 3 (The teacher’s learning environment), and I look forward to working with iEarth geoscience faculty to understand how they develop their teaching and pedagogical thinking. Over the past few years, I have seen the positive change that iEarth has already brought in the environment at UiT, and I look forward to being a part of continuing this trend and collaborating with the rest of the iEarth team over the next 2 years.
