We were thrilled to share this special day with you, as we finally cut ✂ the ribbon for the new iEarth website! Atle Rotevatn, the Head of Department at the Department of Earth Science at UiB, got the honors to cut the ribbon.

Atle Rotevatn

"This week started for me with cutting the ribbon of the new iEarth website. The website is beautiful, and I encourage you all to take a look. Well done to Thea, Jostein and the entire iEarth team for this. The launching event also sparked some reflections with me:

First, it is huge for our department to have an SFU, one out of only two at UiB, and working with our friends at Geofysen, Oslo, Tromsø and UNIS. Let us always make

the most of this opportunity, and engage in iEarth and the iEarth activities. Second, we should make a big deal of things, and celebrate our achievements! New website? Have a ribbon cutting and post it on facebook. Got a good grade on an exam? Celebrate with friends and family! New paper? Celebrate with your group and your friends and post on instagram! New project? Let’s have cake and coffee (and yes, let us take pictures and post on social media!).

Having made the point that it is very important to celebrate things, big and small, I also want to say that, equally importantly, we should also remember that life isn’t only successes. A paper or a proposal got rejected, you failed an exam, you made a mistake that caused the lab to come to a standstill for three days straight. Life is a rollercoaster, and a pat on the back when things go not the way we hope for is just as important as the celebrations."

Big thanks to our partners and friends:
