2022 is upon us and we in iEarth are ready to kick off the new year! Because of the new webpage haven’t been up and running, we haven’t got the chance to present our new network coordinator- Thea Krossøy.

Hello! My name is Thea, and I am the new network coordinator in iEarth.

I started 1st of September 2021 taking over for Anne Stensland who did a formidable job. She left us to pursue her career in Stavanger and live closer to family. We want to thank her for the great job she has done for us.

So, who am I?

I finished my bachelor- and master’s degrees in Earth Science at the University of Bergen the spring of 2020, with specialization in speleology and quaternary geology.

The secrets of darkness: The main goal of my thesis was to identify and investigate the morphological history of glasiokarst phenomena in Lomsdal-Visten Nasjonalpark. Today I am responsible for conservation, or sustainable use of caves in Norway, in the Norwegian Cave Association. Photo: Stein-Erik Lauritzen.

As early as in 2019, I became a part of the iEarth team as a student participant. As a student participant, it was important for me to speak up and participate in evolving the Earth Science education. Since then, I have experienced how iEarth grew from an idea to a Centre of Excellence in Education (SFU).

After my studies, I started my career in Trollfjell UNESCO Global Geopark in Brønnøysund, in northern Norway. This was the dream job, as I am passionate about disseminating geology outdoors for schools, tourists and internationally. After 1 year in the geopark, I got the opportunity to develop my career as a project leader in iEarth, and to continue my engagement in education. I had to say yes!

As a network coordinator, I will be the administrative support for the entire consortium and be responsible for day-to-day communication with the partners, the students and the stakeholders. I will also be responsible for our social media channels, webpage, projects, coordination of the centre, as well as reporting to HK-dir. Me and the centre leader Jostein Bakke form the core engine of iEarth, and together with the Focus Area leaders, Education Chairs and coordinators we have a special responsibility for communication and dissemination of new ideas  across the partner institutions.

I am excited to start the collaboration with the universities, the team in iEarth and with other SFUs in Norway. With their knowledge and expertise and my creativity, I can see a great future for the Earth Science education. Looking forward to representing the network externally.
