Monday next week Focus Area leader and Education Chair Mark Furze together with Lena Håkansson will have a topic meeting regarding Focus Area 4 - Field Learning.
The meeting will be held in iEarth Møterom and on zoom (contact your local education chairs for zoom link).
Lena Håkansson will have a talk about:
“Local field teaching laboratories and why they are important for the geoscience discipline”
Lena will explore the developing concept of the local field teaching laboratory as a valuable tool in geoscience education. This approach integrates locally accessible field teaching features, sites and landscapes in a coherent student-centric framework at a range of scales and across geoscience disciplines. Central to the concept are ideas around accessibility and inclusivity, student ownership and identity, sustainability, flexibility, and novelty space and how these can be addressed effectively at the local level in parallel with, or in preparation for, more intensive or remote field studies.
